More spicy notes and roasted aromas, a little less chocolatey sweetness, woody rather than grassy facets - for all its similarities to the thicker formats, the time-honoured format does have a profile all of its own. This also includes a certain spicy impression and the impression of greater strength, especially towards the finish. This is the popular "D8" blend in the spectacular format of an extra-thick perfecto with a smoking time of easily 80 - 100 minutes. Only a single Torcedor is able to roll the imposing "Zeppelin" - smoking it, on the other hand, is completely uncomplicated!

With an overall quite moderate, in the final third medium strength, the varied smoke brings a pleasant indulgent aroma to the palate. The typical latte melting is found in the creamy smoke as well as the sweet oily taste of light roasted nuts. The gentle notes are cushioned by fine, woody-astringent cedar spice as well as a gossamer pinch of mild pepper. This version of the extra-long and -thick Robustos from Mexico (smoking time approx. 60 - 70 minutes) is named after the original origin rather than the place of cultivation of the dominant tobacco variety Criollo. This is because it is developed from the classic "black tobacco" of Cuba.

This medium-bodied smoke offers the most straightforward, classic tobacco flavour of the range. The intense etherealness of tropical woods combines harmoniously with pithy toasted notes and the mouth-filling umami taste of white bread; a pinch of racy spice adds excitement and spicy facets. On the other side of the flavour spectrum, delicious honey sweetness provides balance. The good-natured, comfortably drawing cigar maintains a rather consistent flavour picture, but definitely shows more strength and body in the final third.

Similar to Cuban tobacco, Brazilian tobacco has a characteristic flavour profile that includes tart, malty cocoa notes and moderate spiciness as well as fruity, grassy and slightly leathery components. Few cigars offer these characteristics as undisguised as this one; medium-bodied, wonderfully harmonious and impeccably rolled, it represents the ideal first contact with this underrated country of production at a fair price. Whoever thinks of Brazilian tobacco only as a lot of men's chocolate and a bit of pepper is wrong here. The complexity of the Robusto is exceptional in this price segment, – besides the typical cocoa note, there are straight mocha beans, the sweetness of black beer, soft leathery-woody astringency, ätheric hints of fruit residues, and more and more exotic spice flavour as the smoke progresses. The smoke seems magically silky, the aroma is very elegant for a filler. The smoke has a little more kick than the smaller sisters.

Something like the first among equals is the Mexican Puro of this superfairly priced series. For about 60 - 70 minutes, it impressively proves that not only beautiful wrappers grow in Turrent's home country. For many, the best "OSRE"

The "Cigar Journal" gave it a fat 92 P. - not without good reasons! The depth of flavour and harmony of the thick cigar suggests a higher price segment. Similar to a Skel Ton or Oliva "Serie V", it is a "chocolate bomb", bursting with flavours of cocoa, coffee and cream. Chocolate mousse with espresso for cigar smokers, so to speak! Besides that, however, it also has peat notes, lots of volatile spices and more than a hint of charming sultana sweetness to offer, embedded in fabulously sloppy smoke. Medium - strong, but with a totally gentle feel, great!

Panama is not really considered the centre of the tobacco world. Yet the country has a rich, 200-year-old tradition of cigar making. This vitola shows you the very own character of this fine tobacco very nicely for about 45 - 60 minutes.

The standard ring gauge ensures a pleasantly soft smoking texture and gently brings a play of aromas to the palate, which is characterised above all by the variety and harmony of its numerous woody notes. But fine sweet components also play a weighty role - sometimes vaguely fruity, sometimes fragrant and floral. Whoever thinks of "Nicaragua" + "cigar" in terms of a heavy pepper blast and explosive aromatics is in the wrong movie here. While this smoke is a little above average in strength, the Mexican outer leaves make for amazingly flattering, nutty, chocolaty sweetness that is more clearly complemented by woody astringency and deeper, earthier notes, puff after puff. Nevertheless, the basic character remains uniquely "toasty-sweet" and reminiscent of roasted almonds until it is put down. The repeatedly flashing spicy notes of nutmeg or cinnamon also match this. Great smoke!

You may well ask why this 54, dressed in chic black, is not simply called "Connecticut", since it is wrapped in such a wrapper. And it certainly doesn't contain tobacco from Florida - but plenty of flavour for a round hour!

The mildest variant of the series offers more than enough variety and intensity of flavour, though the strength is light-medium and thus quite beginner-friendly. Fruity sweetness, moderate peppery spice, cedar wood and a stimulating herbal freshness combine to create an astonishingly complex taste experience for this price range, which is increasingly complemented by the noble bitter and melting taste of roasted nuts. So there's plenty of variety - there's no need for the alleged Spanish tobacco that is sometimes hallucinated into the blend... .

"Wide Churchill", you know that from somewhere... ? - Sure, but not only from Cuba, but also from Costa Rica, where this Robusto Doble is made from mainly local tobaccos. Usual VdS top quality for about 70 - 85 minutes!

The legendary creaminess of this series from Casagrande is additionally triggered by the large ring gauge. It underlines the gentle, sweet indulgence aroma of the blend, which includes melting latte notes as well as hazelnut/almond flavours with a good dose of caramel. Heartier and spicier tones elegantly counteract all the sweetness and softness - as the smoke progresses, leather and tea, fine woods, but also a moderate pinch of pepper increasingly take the stage. In the final third, earth and roasted aromas dominate the almost medium-bodied enjoyment.

As the latest addition to the conceptually innovative Rainforest range, this chubby growler transfers the successful blend of the "Fröschli" to a chubby short 60. Like all cigars, great advertising for Costa Rican tobacco! Burns for approx. 45 - 55 minutes.

Spicy and fruity at the same time, the pure Costa Rican blend is a real insider tip for aficionados who are looking for a real alternative to the sometimes quite similar flavour profiles of "Dominicaraguan" brands. The extra-thick format offers the same harmonious coffee, oak and spice facets as the Short Robusto; the ethereal sweet and sour fruity-herbal notes also come through wonderfully. A perfect blend for summer is hiding under the stylish anilla with the symbols of the Freemasons! Fruity sultana sweetness opens the aroma round, connected from the beginning with the gentle tickle of mild exotic spices. The smoke texture is almost buttery, the - admittedly in the course of somewhat increasing - strength is kept within limits, which keep the smoke also for beginners and casual aficionados extremely pleasant. As the smoke progresses, the aroma changes into a wide range of finely balanced wood aromas, combined with a little leather. Very elegant!

Worth knowing

Why a tiger is depicted on the boxes of a cigar called "Eagle" (Aguila) remains the secret of the manufacturers. It's always nice - and the Perfecto, the size of a Robusto Largo with a smoking time of about 60 - 70 minutes, tastes really fantastic!

Flavours

Single-coloured, but with a beautiful oily shimmer, the Maduro wrapper of this Germany-exclusive Limitada comes along - and already visually indicates that the blend moves in a little "darker" aroma worlds than the standard series. The scent of coffee beans and the fine astringency of noble woods meet subtle sweetness somewhere between caramel and liquorice. In the entertaining course of the smoke, manifold roasted notes are added, from mocha to toast to crispy bread crust - but also sweetish spicy.

While the thicker formats are already amazingly multi-faceted, the long 40s offer a whole new level of variety due to their format. Let yourself be pleasantly surprised for around 80 - 105 minutes!

Few cigars in this price range exhibit such a striking development. The first third is dominated by herbal and ethereal aromas such as cedar, mild pepper, hay and spicy herbs; in the middle section, the smoke has plenty of roasted cereal flavours, caramel and cream, without the spice disappearing. The final third, in turn, heralds a series of tangy, full-bodied flavours such as walnut, espresso and liquorice; despite its intensity, the Lancero is never particularly strong. The often underestimated Mexican criollo pulls out a few stops that are otherwise unknown in this combination.

Worth knowing

As with the Toro, a considerable amount of the profits from this cigar is donated to charitable causes. The excellent quality of the tobacco should make the decision to buy even easier! Smoking time approx. 50 - 60 minutes.

Aroma

Both formats spoil throughout - especially in the 1st third - with charming dried fruit sweetness reminiscent of sultanas and dried figs. From the start, however, this is complemented by finely spicy, mainly woody notes, so that the blend gains a summery, fragrant character. The moderate nicotine content fits perfectly with this. The Robusto is a little more concentrated in taste and slightly stronger; the leathery overtones set in earlier, the spicy notes have a subtle hint of incense, admittedly much more subtle than in a strong Partagás, for example. Nicely toasty towards the end!

Like the Brazilian series, the one with Indonesian wrapper comes in a super-beautifully designed wooden box, whose nostalgic motif invites daydreaming just as much as the fine tobaccos of this approx. 15-minute smoke.

Flavours

You can always tell the blend is heavier on Indonesian leaf, which also provides the wrapper - without the quality having to hide behind the Brazilian variant in the least! Here, pleasantly grassy-floral notes dominate alongside fine, discreetly cedary astringency (after all, Cuban tobacco is also used!). Again and again, spicy aromas can be tasted, which perfectly enrich the well-balanced taste picture.
