Cuba is probably the most famous and best-known country in the world among those countries known for their cigar production. From here come i.a. the world-famous brands Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas, , Romeo y Julieta and Trinidad. When Christopher Columbus made his way to India in 1492, he discovered the Caribbean island and later brought tobacco consumption to Europe. Since the beginning of the 19th century, Cuban cigars have not only been the ultimate for European aficionados but also all over the world. The Cuban capital is called Habana in Spanish, hence the name Habanos for Cuban cigars. Compared to cigars from other countries of origin such as the Dominican Republic or Nicaragua, Cuban cigars are generally stronger.
The geology of Cuba in connection with the prevailing climate offer ideal conditions for tobacco cultivation and cigar production. The Vuelta Abajo in western Cuba is probably the world's most famous tobacco growing area, where the best tobaccos for the finest long fillers grow. Tobacco experts and cigar smokers agree on one thing: the cradle of the best tobacco is in the westernmost province of Cuba - in Pinar del Rio. The diverse flora and fauna as well as the natural beauty are one of the reasons why parts of the province are classified as worthy of protection by UNESCO. The soils in Pinar del Rio consist of copper-red clay, the climate is humid, and it rains regularly with an annual average temperature between 26°C and 27°C. The plantation area in Pinar del Rio is around 100,000 hectares, with the average area of a plantation that also known as La Vega is around 150 hectares in size. Among the best-known Vegas is that of Hoyo de Monterrey, on which filler tobacco is usually grown, and that of El Corojo, which is used for its wrapper leaves.

A brilliant blend! Despite being only 3.5“ long, there is a clear progression of flavours. The „Monterrey Valley“ is one of the best growing regions in Cuba, and the eponymous brand has always named formats after the specific sites. Like this tiny „Entreacto“, a traditional format that should not be underestimated. Cuba enjoyment for about 25 – 30 minutes!
Aromas
Despite the very small diameter, which often ensures a concentrated aroma, the fine cig has a rather sweet flavour. It convinces with intense fermentation, which never subsides towards the end, and the typical flavour facets of light Habanos with bright wrapper leaves, (milk) coffee, white bread, cornflakes, cedar wood. Mild and mellow, with spicy notes, the „Maire“ is extremely easy to start and a cigar for really every occasion.

Not only the biggest, but certainly one of the most opulent and complex Hoyo. Here you are literally bathing in flavour, because this Habano is characterised by intense, flattering sweetness, which makes you think of croissants, sipped cappuccino, even Christmas cookies. „The little fat guy with the super punch“ is the name of an old martial arts film. For this Habano, that would also fit – its massive, intense flavour profile with tremendous smoke development shows a completely different face of the brand than, for example, the Wide Churchill. The rustic deluxe cheroot fascinates right from the start with its lush smoke volume - a flood of complex spicy aromas hits the palate in oily density. The palette ranges from cinnamon and nutmeg to clove and allspice to deep, warming black pepper. The heavier spice and incense notes as well as the distinct earthiness of its stronger sisters are more present in the background here; a delicious honey sweetness continues to take centre stage. The above-average strong Mini-Monte is a prime example of aroma concentration. Roasted coffee aromas with a classy mocha touch, plenty of cocoa on the palate, the brand's unique creamy, subtle sweetness, and surprisingly more body and earth than most longer Corona formats - the second half of a “No. 3”, with a character all of its own. Towards the end, you can certainly remember the depth of taste of the noble “Dumas” remembered. Despite the brevity, a real development can be seen. Great small format!

This narrow Corona differs in format from a Mareva only by the ring gauge, which is 2 numbers slimmer. Like many other smaller Habanos, it only became a handmade premium cigar in 2002. 35 – 45 minutes of smoking pleasure.
Flavours
The „Mille Fleurs“ or „Shorts“ are probably more suitable as an introduction to the brand; fans, on the other hand, particularly appreciate the „Ari“. A strong cigar with an astonishingly full body, spicy and earthy, with a fine hint of pepper and intense incense notes typical of Partag. There is also a discreet ätheric sweetness and pleasant, black tea-like tannins. RyJ has come up with a very special format for this new exclusive cigar in the super-luxury class. Thick like a Wide Churchill, but not belonging to its series, the almost Toro-long sweetheart burns for about 75 - 90 minutes with maximum enjoyment factor.
Flavours
It quickly becomes clear that this exquisite rarity is by no means just a "pumped-up" noble version of the Belicoso. The tobaccos used testify to their hand-picked quality, puff by puff; the overall taste experience seems like a bundled "best-of" of the famous traditional brand. Solid cedar notes, embedded in a ravishing nuttiness reminiscent of Upmann, the fresh sweetness of the best meadow honey, a subtle hint of leather hovering over everything, sometimes also hints of berry fruits flatter the palate. This Maduro also has a racy flavour profile with a coffee aroma, deep earthy notes and elegant woody spiciness. It resembles the Mágico more than the Genio, also with regard to the rather low degree of sweetness. The most piquant, and due to the slender ring gauge also the most aromatically concentrated of the three cigars, with a distinctly spicy character (dried mushrooms, autumn leaves!) and a downright smooth smoking consistency. This sweet chubby is one of the youngest Cohibas; it was presented in 2016 for the 50th official brand anniversary and combines the length of the smallest with the thickness of the largest „Siglo”-Cohiba. It thus contributes to the trend „ short thickness” with a short smoking time but a large smoke volume perfectly into account. 45 - 70 minutes are all possible!
Aroma
A relatively mild, gentle, pampering aroma in the first third makes the MS one of the best entry-level Cohibas. Particularly intense sweetness, the classic summer meadow flavors of flowers and hay, wonderfully creamy notes of almonds and latte in perfect balance make this lovable cigar (which traditionalists sometimes looked askance at first) a real enrichment in the portfolio.
