Worth knowing

First in bourbon, then in cognac barrels, this approx. 5-year-old value-for-money champ from Belize and Guatemala matures. With some power, it is a wonderfully soft pleasure of remarkable aromatic complexity and with a noticeable character of its own.

Aroma

The first impression on the nose is of animating freshness - the scent of tropical fruits merges with that of fine spices. The palate is initially dominated by velvety vanilla and intense honey sweetness, but soon the fruity notes reappear, underpinned by expressive tart-sweet facets. Sip by sip, the brandy reveals its depth of flavour, with the distinguished tannins of dark woods, a hint of cocoa and the subtle influence of the two different barrels. Only in the finish does it show its power, when a wisely measured pinch of warming pepper is added.

Der Plantation Rum XO 20th Aniversary ist ein Single Rum Blend (Blend aus einer Destillerie) der anlässlich des 20jährigen Jubiläums der Marke Plantation geblendet wurde und somit die älteste Abfüllung der Plantation Rum Serie ist. Bei dieser Abfüllung handelt es sich um eine Cuvee verschiedener alter Barbados – Rums, die im Column – und Pot Still Verfahren gebrannt werden, anschließend im „double aging“ Verfahren 12 Jahre in Bourbon – Fässern reifen und anschließend in kleine ehemalige Cognac – Fässer umgefüllt werden um dort ihr 12 monatiges Finishing erfahren.

Aromen

In der Nase ist ein einprägsames Wechselspiel von süßen Vanille –, Honig – und Karamellnoten sowie fruchtigen Nuancen wahrnehmbar, die von Bananen –, Kokosraspeln – und Aprikosenaromen durchzogen sind. Schon beim ersten Schluck präsentiert der Plantation Rum XO 20th Aniversary am Gaumen seinen weichen und vollmundigen Charakter. Vordergründig ist eine reichhaltige Vanille – Süße gepaart mit Kakao -, Tabak – und spritzigen Orangennoten wahrnehmbar, bei der Zuckerrohr -, Eichenholz – und Kokosnussaromen mitschwingen. One of the most popular bottlings from the Bowmore distillery is the Bowmore 15 year old. The distillery was founded in 1779 on the famous island of Islay in Scotland. Locals say that the distillery began around 10 years earlier. This single malt is first matured in bourbon casks and then receives a fine stay in 3-year-old Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for the finish, which is quite remarkable and gives the single malt even more aromas.

Aromas

With a slightly higher alcohol content of 43%, the color tinted with dye and a chill filtering, the Bowmore 15 conquers the hearts of all connoisseurs. An extraordinary mix of sherry, bourbon and peat, which only makes you want more. Nuances of raisins, fine smoke and cedar wood can be found when enjoying this single malt.

This long-matured fine brandy from Jerez is distilled from the best Palomino grapes. The name component ‘Solera’ refers to the ageing process exclusively in American sherry oak barrels.

Flavour

On the nose, the brandy is wonderfully smooth, with gentle exotic spice notes, cocoa flavours and nutty facets. All of this then pampers the palate in the most beautiful harmony. The flavour is much more full-bodied and concise than the moderate alcohol content would suggest. Through his good relations with the best Caribbean distilleries, Alexander Gabriel had the opportunity to discover distillates of different ages with an impressive variety of aromas, which were refined in former Ferrand barrels. In order for each rum to express the full potential of its homeland, each rum goes through the typical production and plantation distillation process of its country of origin.

Aroma

The Plantation Special Edition Jamaica 10 Years matures for 8 years in American bourbon barrels and then for another 2 years at Maison Ferrand in France. The amber-coloured rum convinces with its intense and complex bouquet of fresh fruits as well as earthy and woody hints. On the palate, a multi-layered fruity aroma of peach, bananas, plums and walnuts unfolds. Gradually, spicy notes of the finest vanilla, cloves and cinnamon join in, underpinned by a hint of fresh pastry. The long-lasting and dry finish is characterised by the taste of fresh mint and roasted coffee and almonds.

The Presidential Porto 10 year old is just the thing for an insight into the high-quality premium range. The port wines from Presidential are bottled by the company C. Da Silva in Portugal. The special thing about port wine is that it is not only stored in oak barrels, but also in the bottle afterwards.

The basis for the copper-coloured Ron Millonario Solera Reserva Especial 15 year old in the glass is molasses, made from sugar cane grown under the best climatic conditions, which is distilled in three old Scottish copper stills from the last century. After distillation, it is matured for 15 years in Slavonian and American oak barrels using the solera method, and the nose is captivated by a long-lasting aroma of candied fruit, toffee, caramel and sultana notes. On the palate, it reveals its incomparable flavour profile with sultanas, toffee and ripe fruit aromas. The oily finish is long-lasting and characterised by sweet sherry, fruit and oak notes.

Der Ardbeg An Oa ist der erste Neuzugang in der Core Range von Ardbeg seit über einem Jahrzehnt. Benannt wurde er nach dem Kap der Halbinsel Oa, dem Mull of Oa. Er wird ebenso wie der 10jährige Ardbeg non – chill – filtered (nicht kaltgefiltert) abgefüllt, wodurch er deutlich mehr Geschmacksstoffe enthält als kaltgefilterte Whiskeys.

Aromen

Im Glas liegt der Ardbeg An Oa farblich in einem dunklem Strohgold und begegnet in der Nase gefällig mit feinen und runden Pfirsich -, Datteln -, Anis - und Rauchnoten gepaart mit darunterliegenden Teer – und Zitrusaromen sowie an erkaltendes Feuer erinnernden Noten. Der 10jährige Ardbeg ist der erste non – chill – filtered Whiskey des Hauses, d.h. er wurde nicht kaltgefiltert und enthält deshalb mehr Geschmacksstoffe. The Scottish distillery Bunnahabhain has always been the most atypical and truly exceptional of the few distilleries on Islay. While the other distilleries on the island are known for their powerful and heavily peated whiskeys, Bunnahabhain lets the island's nature do the talking. In order to preserve the natural character of the 12-year-old Bunnahabhain, which is predominantly determined by the fresh sea air, this whiskey does not have any colorants added and is not chill-filtered. The filtration process not only removes suspended matter from the whiskey, but also small amounts of fatty acids. As fats are known to be an excellent flavor carrier, various aromatic substances are also lost as a result.

Flavors

A complex aroma of dried seaweed and soft caramel develops on the nose, gently underlined by toasted bread and a little smoke. There are also hints of hay and dried herbs. The Bunnahabhain presents its light body on the palate, which is dominated by the finest vanilla aromas and spicy malt notes. The sweetness is later combined in the most pleasant way with sea salt and delicate fruit, which impart depth and richness alongside a beautiful freshness. Only molasses obtained from sugar cane is used for the Centenario Gran Legado 12 YO. The tropical climate in Guyana makes it possible to achieve a unique flavour and an explosion of aromas. The Glenmorangie The Original 10 Year Old produces a fine and mild aroma. A perfect drop to immerse yourself in the world of whiskies. It is matured in bourbon casks. The result - extraction of extra aromas. On the palate, it is noticeable with citrus, honey, orange and creamy vanilla notes. The finish is still on the mild side, followed by a slight tingle on the tongue.

The Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros is a rum blend for which the distillery's Maestros Roneros select the finest Havana Club rums. The rum is made from sugar cane molasses that is first fermented and then distilled. The youngest rum used for the blend is matured for at least 10 years in American white oak barrels that previously contained bourbon whiskey. For the Seleccion de Maestros, selected rums are put together and stored again in young American white oak barrels, which give the rum a strong note and add the finishing touches. From there, it is bottled at 45%. This process is known as Cuban Barrel Proof and was relaunched in 2010. Only the design of the bottles and the name were changed. The extensive production and storage process remained unchanged.

Flavors

Visually, the Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros shines in strong dark red amber. The nose immediately reveals notes of roasted pecan, caramel, spice, tobacco and wood aromas.
