Hermann Upmann war ein Bankier aus Deutschland, der kubanische Zigarren so sehr liebte, dass er 1844 nach Havanna umsiedelte, wo er fortan als Bankier und Zigarrenhersteller tätig war. Seine Bank musste kurz nach 1920 geschlossen werden, aber seine Zigarren leben als exzellentes Beispiel für eine Habano von leichtem bis mittelkräftigem Geschmack weiter. Garant für den Erfolg Upmanns war sein Bestreben, ausschließlich erstklassige Qualität zu liefern.
