Worth knowing

Is your favourite Cuban Robusto currently out of stock? Try one from the newly launched classic LC line! You won't find any non-Cubans with such a Habanos-like flavour. Smoking time approx. 50 - 60 minutes.

Flavours

Whow, the start transports the smoker to a summer meadow, with floral notes, fruity flavours and the scent of hay! A rather light cigar, yet full of flavour, with new and appealing facets every puff. In a blind tasting, there is a risk of confusion with half the range of milder Habanos, so deceptively close is the flavour, which also includes woody, gently roasted and discreetly leathery components, to La Habana. The long-matured Olor tobacco in particular creates a veritable peacock's wheel of flavours. Also way ahead in terms of craftsmanship!

Worth knowing

From Cuba, we are traveling to the Dominican Republic for the first time today. There, in an exclusive Tabacalera, the experienced tobacco marketer Willi Knopf is resurrecting a brand that was once very popular among aficionados, but whose history seemed to have ended in 2017: Laura Chavin! Four new series have just been launched and - to put it bluntly - will surely make the eyes of many cigar lovers light up! The new classic series is almost a Puro series, only the wrappers in the light color "Claro" are "shade grown" leaves from Ecuador (Connecticut seed), while the long filler filler combines no fewer than 6 (!) types of tobacco. The taste profile, however, suggests that you are smoking a genuine Habano - with this cigar you could even fool experienced smokers in a blind tasting! But first things first:;

Flavours and strength

After a problem-free start, there is immediately plenty of creamy smoke. In addition to a light woody spice, notes of milk coffee and light nuts (almonds) can be tasted - one thinks of the Epicure series from Hoyo de Monterrey. After just a few puffs, the often - and not always rightly - invoked "peacock's wheel" of aromas suddenly unfolds. Various floral facets are added; a seductive ethereal-fruity note like candied orange peel gradually becomes sweeter and heavier, the coffee scent remains, while the floral component becomes "darker" and a subtle noble bitter taste creeps into the background. Once again, Trinidad, an excellent Habanos brand, comes to mind as a point of comparison. Only the distinctly light draw reminds us of the non-Cuban origin. The strength is just in the middle range.

The complex play of exotic aromas continues in the second third; the roasted coffee taste and the “umami” character become more pronounced. The Ecuadorian wrapper does not bring the usual pepper, but only a subtle spicy note. Individual draws taste of herbs in between, then the citrus note comes through again. The extremely complex blend only becomes slightly stronger. Towards the end, the aroma does not shift any further, but remains very exciting and varied until the end. The floral and slightly bitter notes (hops, bitter almonds) are in the foreground in the finish.

Conclusion

The burn only needs a little correction at the beginning, but levels out quickly. If you initially fear that the light draw will make the smoking time very manageable, the tobacco burns noticeably more slowly thanks to the exemplary rolling - in the test it took an impressive 65 minutes until the superbly blended cigar was smoked down to the last draw. With its extraordinary variety of intense, charming aromas at medium strength, the relaunch of this format has been extremely successful! It is recommended for beginners as well as old hands who think they already know everything. Whether intentionally or not, its taste is much more oriented towards the big names from Cuba than the two Dominican top dogs in the segment of higher-priced premium cigars and offers an excellent, highly original alternative to the more well-known brands. An individualistic cigar that meets the highest demands and should suit many tastes!
