Wissenswertes

AVO

Avo Uvezian, the founder of AVO cigars, was born in Beirut in 1926, the son of an Armenian singer and an Armenian composer and conductor. With both parents travelling in the music industry, the young Avo was also very enthusiastic about music and dreamed of a great musical career. As a teenager, he travelled the Middle East with his jazz trio and then studied classical piano and music composition in New York, where he also discovered his passion for cigars. In the 1980s, he emigrated to Puerto Rico to open a restaurant with an integrated piano bar. It was there that he rediscovered his love of cigars and decided to have them rolled on site to serve to his guests after dinner and during his concerts. During his lifetime, Avo Uvezian was a musician through and through, so it was always important to him that the compositions and notes harmonised with his philosophy. This is also reflected in the flavour profile of his cigars, as the blends for the AVO cigars are music for the palate and the co-producer is none other than Hendrik Kelner. The idea of selling the cigars instead of giving them away to guests came from Avo's then five-year-old daughter and proved to be a real stroke of luck. Before his death on 24 March 2017, Avo Uvezian sold his brand rights to the Davidoff Oettinger Group, which still produces and distributes his cigars today.
